A Goodreads user asked Courtney Wendleton:

what's the biggest source of frustration for you as a writer?

Courtney Wendleton My biggest frustration is all the voices in my head. I don't mean the characters trying to come out or crazy-paranoid voices but the voices of society telling me what I can and cannot write. In general I do not set out to offend anyone, I just want to write what is in my head. However, I society picks and chooses what is politically correct or wrong to say. So in order to not offend some people, I have to come up with a way that will express what I want in a way that doesn't tick people off. I try to steer clear of a lot of cussing or certain words that fall in that category because they offend people, but sometimes SHIT expresses the situation better than CRAP. I know it may be stupid to do this but at the same time if you want to keep readers you have to make sure you don't tick them off with the wrong word. But hey Harper Lee was able to use a very offensive term and her book became a big classic.
