Regarding the tampon, my take was that she did not want the man to know that she was pregnant, so she was using up the tampons as if she was still having her period. Regarding the "blanket" text, I believe Andrew S answered that above - the blanket was the one piece of info that the sheriff had left out of the reports, but still the man in the bar knew a blanket had been put on the boy. Hope this helps!
