The book says that she has dark skin, but also later says that she has extremely straight hair. She is also described as an exotic beauty, so tan is probably a bit of an understatement. Honestly, I ended up picturing her as Hawaiin because of the description of her home island.
Author-ization
Jessamin is half white and half Melense, which is a fictional people of color in the book. She is biracial, or mixed! The author means exactly what she's writing: Jessamin has dark skin. We're lucky she doesn't elaborate by comparing her skin to food, like chocolate or coffee, amirite? ;D
