I agree, there is no explicit sex, although there is reference to call girls and the implication that condoms were carelessly disposed of during WW2 bombings in Plymouth. It is generally a clean book.

Yes. There's no sex to worry about--the author (or at least her ghost writer) was too aware of the readership to put in anything even remotely spicy. How interested a young teen would be in the politics and WW2 reminiscences that lard the text is debatable.
