I just finished and it's pretty fresh in my mind. It is revealed at the Burrito restaurant that Colin is out of the hospital. The last time we heard anything about Colin being in critical cond. is at Thanksgiving. So when Avery sees him at the restaurant, it has been over a month and she hadn't been reading emails or using her phone for updates on his condition. I think she had convinced herself that Colin would or had died and she was in shock after seeing him.
When Gruder said Colin was out of the picture, he meant competitive swimming.
