I want to read this book so badly, I purchased it when the movie first came out, but I've been told it is horribly sad. I'm not asking for any spoilers, but does anyone know if the animals survive? I'm not sure I'm up for reading a book where all the animals die a terrible death.

There are many gruesome, terrible animal deaths in this novel. You can always skip it though... the deaths only are a few pages and you can tell what happened afterwards (the animals that do die are mentioned later)

This book is terribly sad at many different points, and it did get hard to get through at times. It may not be for you.
