If you can choose any World War 2 book I would strongly recommend Operation Mincemeat -- the true story of an undercover operation carried out by the British. They decided to float a dead body carrying false intelligence onto the shores of Spain in the hopes that the Germans would find it. Fascinating because it really happened and because it literally changed the course of the war.
