Robert asked:

Does anyone know what the "Tray" playing card is? I have Googled but cannot find out what it is.

Gretchen Trey is what many call Three.
Yeshe It’s ‘three’; saw it in the opera by Tchaikovsky. Possibly taken from French ‘trois’.
George P. My grandmother used to call a three a "tray" when I played cards with her. I guess it comes from the Latin. Three in Spanish is tres and in Italian tre.
Marina just saw your question... i read it years ago so I don't remember, but if you can tell me where exactly in the story it's mentioned, I can check what the Russian original says and research a little if needed :)
