If the age of consent is 18, an 18 yr old with a 17 yr old would surely not raise legal authority. What about a 19 with a 16? My point is that a continuum must be in place to before law enforcement steps in and says "enough," as well as penalize different levels of severity. What is the definition of pedophile as applied to precise age disparity? In the United states, does it vary by state law?

Melon Yes, it varies by state. For example, in Texas, the age of consent is actually seventeen, not eighteen, and a three year age gap is permitted between sexual partners. So in the case of your nineteen year old with a sixteen year old, it would be legal as long as they are LESS than three years apart--if the nineteen year old would turn twenty before the sixteen year old would turn seventeen, then sex acts between them would be unlawful (until they turned seventeen, at which time, it would not longer be unlawful!)... Make sense?
