Yeah this book is more romance and family based than "alien-based". And even if you don't like it (which is highly unlikely -it's a great book- ) it's a super fast read, I read it in about 3 and 1/2 hours, so it will not be a huge waste of time on the off-chance you don't like it. I highly recommend it, it's one of my favorites!

Read The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey instead. Or, if you're more ambitious, The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula K. LeGuin. This is romance with an alien overlay.

Yes, I hadn't either when I read this but I enjoyed it very much! It isn't in your face with the alien aspects
