As Adam Dalgliesh would probably say, "Murder never makes sense." For the plot of this story, I think the explanation of the motive for the first two murders makes sense. I'm not so sure I agree with the motive for attempted third murder. Then again, at the end of the book, I was left with the impression that perhaps the killer wasn't the only person involved with the crimes - as if some of the others characters were still hiding some secrets.
