Why do you think that there is no mention of the mothers of Werner and Marie-Laure? We know how his father died and she lived with her father, but no mothers!

Alana Tanner I think the mothers had no relevance to the story line, and would also have added 2 important characters whom the author would have needed to add a lot to round them out as individuals. By not mentioning them, they become unnecessary to the book. Overlooking them allowed the author to fully develop the main characters.
