asked:
I read books two or three times because I tend to skim the first time and miss things. I just finished my first read of The Girl on the Train and am wondering what was the significance of the pile of clothes near the tracks at the beginning of the book. I know Rachel thought about them throughout the book but was there a reason for them?

I was wondering the same thing! I don't see any correlation. Maybe someone else will have some insight.
