I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for asking! I based the world on a trip I took to southern Brazil when I was in college. I was expecting a jungle/rain forest but got something totally unanticipated--pine trees and familiar foliage, mixed with monkeys, brightly colored birds, and fruit orchards. And I was cold the entire time I was there!
It was such an eye opening experience, mixing the familiar with the unfamiliar that I thought it would make an interesting and very different setting for a novel.
