Jules The point was to take the reader through the many hours, from Zou Lei's point of view, as she desperately waited for daylight. She had to keep moving, propel forward, lest she crash from fatigue -- or perhaps face a truth she couldn't bear to face.
Vuk Trifkovic Jules got it exactly. Plus, it seems to play on the sense of Zou Lei's nomadic Uighur heritage.
