I would like to know the significance of the epigraph in the novel (the quote by Rudolph Hoess). "Becoming fond of the Black Uniform worn by an SS officer and not relinquishing it." Hoess said it but these words could have come from Anna's mouth as well, correct? Afterall, she was "an employee," so to speak, of the SS.

I think this had something to do with Anna's holding on to the memory of the SS officer who was her lover. She couldn't relinquish the memory of him, until it almost destroyed her.
