Kayla Headley asked:

The Awakening may be seen as the simple story of the breakdown of a marriage. In an era before "no-fault divorce", blame had to be ascribed to one or the other of the partners. Is Leonce a good husband? Does Edna Pontellier have a good life? Would you yourself like and accept Edna's life? Why is Edna so unhappy?

Josephine Briggs She is suffering from depression. The doctor tells Edna to talk to him if she has problems. He is an older man and probably has had patients talk about different problems. Edna's husband told the doctor about how Edna was acting. In a way she was acting like an adolescent falling in love with Robert, a womanizer, who was just playing with her.
Melanie He's a good husband for the social norms of the time-he worked and gave her a "good life". He thinks she has a good life. But she doesn't, because she wants to be free. No I would not like Edna's life. She is unhappy because she is trapped and repressed. She's like the caged bird in the story.
