Sorry I did not see this question before now!! The story takes place in a nonexistent state in the Midwest. None of the states around where I really envision the book taking place use the death penalty. In my mind he was electrocuted. Interestingly enough, after I wrote the book I did some further research on the death penalty, and one article suggested that the word used most by those who are being executed is the word, "Peace."
