Goodreads asked Tim Baer:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Tim Baer "Sherpa Holmes" started as just the title. I was reading "The Complete Sherlock Holmes" at the time, and for some odd reason, Sherpa Holmes popped into my head. I was working on my second anthology of short stories, "Will Write SciFi for Food, Too" and it was to be the last story, a novella, to be included. It was going to be a steampunk fantasy about a woman from India (Yes, I know Sherpas are not from India,) who solved mysteries in the manner of Holmes. The story did not go that way, and it quickly snowballed into a full length novel.
