Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
I had barely honed the skills to convince my children they had to take pure math, and that all the kids who said they'd had sex hadn't really when my eldest daughter announced her imminent departure from home. Soon after, our first son left for a ski resort, the second son considered entering an ashram, and our sixteen-year-old daughter left for five months in Italy. During years spent keeping track of a house of teens, cooking heaps of food, giving driving lessons, and soothing all the victims of unrequited love, I never thought much about their launch from the nest. Had I prepared them? Wary of hovering, I've attempted nervous iparenting from afar. Text Me, Love Mom tells what happens during those sometimes turbulent, sometimes funny, curious new times.
