Don't give up! It's one of the best series i've ever read. trust me its amazing. the best book is either 3 or 4 in my opinion. 4 being after.

It gets a little better as it progresses, but not a whole lot. Of course the ending leaves you hanging since it is the first in a trilogy. I don't plan to read the rest of them.
