Philippa Dowding hey Soria! I can tell you what was on my mind: I always wanted to fly. I loved the story of Icarus as a kid (the boy in Greek mythology who flew too close to the sun), and I used to dream all the time about flying. When I wanted to write a book about a young teenager, it seemed like the perfect way to explore all the weird changes of being 13 going on 14. Puberty, rumours, lost friends and missing family members, flight ... it all seemed to fit. Good question!
