(view spoiler)[Do you think that Lillian's fate would have been similar to Sophie's fate had she not taken the action on the train? (trying to avoid spoilers here). When I finished the book my thoughts turned to Lillian and I could not help but wonder if she would have been "protected" by the Germans too. Thoughts?? (hide spoiler)]
Debie Orrell Remember the Germans never intended to let Lilian to go with Sophie. Sophie took Lilian with her when she was called out by the Germans.
Christiana Yes,I too wondered what the Germans had planned for Lillian. Since it was just the 2 prisoners in the truck, it stands to reason that she would have had a similar outcome? I guess it illustrates the difference between despair and hope (or Sophie's faith in others).
Franc I don't think Lillian would've been protected, she would've just been left in the camp. The Kommandant made arrangements for Sophie; I didn't get the impression anyone was pulling for Lillian in the same way.
