Becky What is "chick lit" to you? Do you consider any book that has a female protagonist and explores the experience of love to be "chick lit"? The narrative arc of the story is indeed built around the main character's reunion with the most compelling love of her life, but "chick lit" implies a certain level of superficiality and wish-fulfillment that the book's race/immigration themes and even the treatment of the love story itself belie.
S Jim, yes. The book is an easy read, the readability index is low and the characters are flat. It wasn't hard to imagine what was going to happen next.
Tiffany No, I do not think so. It is insightful to cultural obstacles/ race relations. It's not so much of chick lit but romance is one if the themes of the book.
