A Goodreads user asked:

So, I know the novel is part of the "new canon" of star wars. But. The heading above says its book 3 of a series. So does that mean that books 1 and 2 are official canon as well even though they were made before?

Mike Center The heading above is in error. This was planned to be book three of the series, however that was changed after the shift to Legends/Canon. This book was revised to fit into the new canon and no longer is part of the "Empire and Rebellion" series.
Steven Shinder The revision probably shifted the events of this book much closer to A New Hope as opposed to taking place after the other two books within a year before The Empire Strikes Back. The preview makes it seem like this could take place during the two-week gap between A New Hope and Marvel's new Star Wars comics.
