asked:
Dear Readers, How does Fanny Seward's life story add to our understanding of the Civil War? In what ways was Fanny's membership in a prominent and powerful Civil War family both a blessing and a curse? Many thanks! Trudy Krisher

Hi, Trudy!
Fanny's story adds a real human element to my understanding of the Civil War. War takes its toll on families, and not just on those who send their sons off to the battlefield. I wonder whether Frances's many physical ailments were partly a result of her living a life that she may not have chosen- being in the public eye, when she perhaps may have preferred living a quieter life.
