No, you didn't. Maybe you're just not the target reader for it. I feel the same too, for some of the books i read that didn't affect me in any way.
I actually liked The Alchemist. But for those who didn't like it, it is neither the author's fault or the reader's. They just don't match. So just find other books that entertain you, and don't mind if other people love it or not.
