I grew up in Port Angeles, Washington, a quick seven miles from the Elwha River on the Olympic Peninsula. The story of that magnificent river through its subjugation and release has long captivated me, and seemed a perfect illustration of my character Hildy's inner story—as she breaks free of generational strongholds that have held her captive.
