I am a big fan of fairy tale retellings, and the plots of these sound intriguing, but every summary of this author's fairy tale books seems to drag a male character to the center of the story, which is pretty much exactly the opposite of what I'm looking for. Am I misreading these? Do the summaries reflect the work? Are the girls/women in these stories still active protagonists?
