I just saw the movie tonight. In the sense that a book, with all the interior thoughts and feeling of the characters, is always better, so is this one. For the film hey changed a few things, the major one being consolidating 2 characters--the owner of the circus and August, Marlena's husband--into one, which worked fine. In fact, I was impressed, as I often am these days, with the adaptation. It must be so hard to streamline the complexities of a novel into a medium that's all surface and just two hours long. I think screenwriters are getting much better at it.
