Should I read this series in order?

Eve You have to because there is a lot of info about characters in previous books in Scarlet and Cress and it won't make sense if you don't.
Julie Tao You have to. This series will not make sense otherwise. Read Cinder first, because Cinder is the main character. She's the main character even in Scarlet (book 2), and she will continue being the main character even in the 3rd and 4th books. The plot progresses chronologically throughout the series and it will not make sense to you if you don't read them in order. The books are not all happening at the same time. The first book happens first, and then the second book's events happen, and so on. Like a regular series. As we go to the 2nd book, Scarlet's storyline then starts, intertwining with Cinder's as Cinder's storyline is picked up as it was left off in the first book.
Defne Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: This is a hard question because I have seen that some people like the new characters in the subsequent books better than the main ones in the first book. I think this might be due to the second book being a bit more adult than the first one. Plus, your favorite fairy tale might influence how you like these books. At the end of the day though, events in the books follow one and other and you would might not understand certain things or spoil surprises for yourself if you don't read in order.
