Goodreads asked Robert DeFrank:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Robert DeFrank There are different kinds of blocks and different ways of getting through them. If it's a scene that's giving me trouble, sometimes I can skip it for now and go back later. Sometimes I need to consider if the story has gone off the rails and whether I might need to backtrack and figure out what went wrong and where. Most often it's a result of losing passion for the project. I figure out why. Attack the block from different angles and accept that I'm probably going to end up writing a lot of stuff I'll just delete.
