Goodreads asked Arpita Bhawal:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Arpita Bhawal Write what you know. Don't follow and ape trends. You can't be Salinger or F. Scott Fitzgerald or Alice Munro or Jhumpa Lahiri or Amitava Ghosh. But that doesn't imply you should be like the others who are writing formula novels about 'boy-meets-girl-falls in love-has an affair with friend's wife-reunites with girl' novels because some publishers are afraid to try out authentic writers and refreshing tales. Write what you know. Write from your heart. Write like you don't care if anyone will ever read your work.
