In my case, I got a complimentary copy from a train station on my way home from work one night. I want to read Blood of Olympus since I see that book the most, but I know that if I wanted to start Heroes of Olympus, I'd better start with The Lost Hero, and so I took a copy when they had 2 on the shelf for the train customers to take.
