Goodreads asked Kay Brandt:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Kay Brandt Don't do it for the money. There isn't much to be made these days, sadly. Every author I know that was flying high five-six years ago (and before that) with great sales and equally fantastic paychecks isn't anymore. Now, it's a major struggle just to sell a handful of books and make enough money to buy a bag of groceries. I know authors who started publishing because they thought it would be easy money and then quit. Write because you love the art and craft of it -- because it's who you are. Don't expect anything in return. The fans you make along the way are to be cherished and appreciated for supporting your work.
