Kartik asked:

How did the lines develop the idea that when the Calling came and the teenagers have to be sent, the twelve will have to fight each other to determine the winner? How did the lines know that there would be fighting involved, why did they take this secretive approach to it? Furthermore, how come none of them thought about figuring out how to prevent Endgame in the 5000 years that they prepared?

Darrian I don't think they knew it meant killing. No one knew exactly what Endgame meant and that's why they trained the Players in a ton of different fields. I think they just assumed that's what it meant since only one bloodline would be surviving Endgame. They trained them in decoding, languages, and history too because they were covering all their bases. As far as stopping Endgame, how would they even go about stopping something that came from another world? There is no stopping it and they knew this. What will be will be.
