Not exactly. One is fiction, this one is not. The writing style is also very different, I love Khaled Hosseini, he is an amazing story teller. Sultana on the other hand has an amazing story to tell. You should start with the first one though, if you haven't already after 1 year when this question was asked. Both are beautiful, hard to read and interesting books.
