Goodreads asked Nancy LiPetri:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Nancy LiPetri The Wooded Path was an amalgamation of ideas I had collected over the years from all sorts of sources including my own life, my friends' tales, the sharing of virtual strangers (I don't know why people are compelled to share some details with me), and even inspiring characters on TV, movies and in music. Oh, and from my dreams! I had tried to pull the ideas together in different plots, but it wasn't until I was on an actual bunco boat ride that I got the idea for the catalytic event that would tie it all together. The protagonist, Laine (I have a cousin with that middle name), was inspired by a red-haired beauty I admired in a gym locker room years ago, thinking she was so perfect...until she opened her mouth and revealed she was just as quirky and insecure as the rest of us.
