Thepinkpig Abides Perhaps because she was practical and felt he would make a good husband. Also maybe out of being traditional, that marriage is what you did at that time, and it was the natural progression of a dating relationship? I'm not sure - what did you think?
Read A Book I thought she remarried him because of seeing no
prospect at her age she was getting older and didn't
want to be alone.
Manly Manster Because she is a character who has a negative plight to live through, or more importantly suffer through, til she turns 50. Only then will she become wise enough to make better choices, and go on the journey that is shown in the book.

Atembe Fonge Giles I think her husband wooed her with how amazing California would be once they moved there. Another thing is, when Arlene was narrating she mentioned how she and BJ had always butt heads and she suspected one reason for that. Arlene suspected that BJ probably blamed her for making BJ marry Lee David, and Arlene said it's not her fault they ended up living in the ghetto like they did. So maybe Arlene convinced her that he was a good catch, like Arlene convinced her that her hair looked better short when they were younger, haha.
