I might disagree with it being appropriate. There are an awful lot of sexual situations discussed. There is nothing explicit, but the tone is very sensational, much like a tabloid or gossip column. While the details are historic, they are not discussed academically. I could understand a parent not being comfortable with their 14 year-old reading this.

absolutely; the language is not difficult, there is only the most rudimentary discussion or situations re sex, and it's conceptually easy.
