What concerns the facts / threads from the Soviet period, they are partly true, but exaggerated. E.g. you did not need a party recommendation to go to a university, but some were elite and inaccessible for a common person. But to become a student of a medical faculty you only needed to have a normal school graduation and to pass the qualifying examination. Therefore the history of that period as told is rather alternative.

There is some true history in this book; however, I would consider this more of an alternate history/historical fiction. I did a lot of fact checking along the way, since I am not very familiar with the history of Russia.
