This is a standalone book which is very good, now if you read this book first you will get and understand more of the back story when they show up in the cut n run series.

If you're going to read the Cut & Run series (which you should b/c it's awesome), then you should read this either first or some time before book 5. But you can totally read this as a stand alone.
