Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Clifton Stringfield I've always been intrigued by the idea that complex machines in our modern times can be mimicked using gears and steam. Then, in the end of 2008/beginning of 2009, I thought of a machine which was inspired by some cocktail of Star Wars and ancient Greek mythology. It was enormous, and as frightening as it was original. I started to ask myself questions, like who would build such a device? What was it built for? Was it a new creation or some ancient thing uncovered by heroes unknown? As I set about answering these questions as creatively as possible I shared the idea with a long time friend, who was also aspiring to write. He had some excellent ideas, and by May 1 2009 we had outlined a story so remarkably removed from the norm it demanded to be told.
