It means that the book is recommended for mature high-school students to break down and analyze, making connections to reality. As a matter of fact, had it not been recommended for a group circle reading in my freshman class this year, I wouldn't ever have even known what the book was. It was a great story and sadly, realistic and relatable for the most part. However, not everyone would agree with the way that Sara and Brielle acted.
