Try The Day We Are Born, by Philippa Cameron. Similar style, similar themes, awesome book!

I saw a lot of similarities with Perks of Being a Wallflower, primarily in the Miles character who is introduced to a broader mindset with the help of a mature, bold girl. Perks is about a freshman boy making his way into high school, while Miles is a junior. I also think that Alaska was a little deeper with its themes of death and meaning than Perks. I often hear them come up as 1-2 on students' lists of favorites.
