Erin asked Gail Carriger:

I always love all the female characters in your books! How do you create such relatable and well developed characters? Is there a specific process you go through when writing these characters?

Gail Carriger Well, all my characters (no matter how minor) have their own interests and motivations. They are all the protagonist in their own story, even if it only intersects my main character briefly. Sometimes I will give the character a magazine quiz, all of them have a vital stats sheet that includes motivation. As to female characters in particular, I am blessed with many awesome female friends and I enjoy writing about all forms of friendship. Real friendship. The kind that isn't back stabbing or petty. It's important to me in my life, so it's important to my characters ~ whether they realize it or not.
