The book is a translation of 生死河, written by author Cai Jun (蔡骏). Cai is a popular thriller writer in China. If you like thrillers with paranormal elements and unusual characters, this may be your cup of tea. It's not a gruesome read, there are murders here, but they are not described in excess.
