asked:
Why are people leaving 5-star reviews who haven't read it? Is that any better than leaving a 1-star review without reading a book first?

They were leaving the reviews in anticipation of the book. They're actually rating how they already feel about the book, though they haven't read it. It's not as bad as leaving an automatic 1-star, which insinuates it's going to be absolute crap, but it does get their expectations up and if they're not met, they're going to regret those stars immediately.
