Goodreads asked Caitlin L. Horton:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Caitlin L. Horton Memphis Type History is my first book. I'm a bit of an accidental author, as the opportunity to do this book came unexpectedly. A few years ago, a photographer named Jeremy Greene began a series of photographs of interesting signs and graffiti around the city that he called Memphis Type. With Jeremy's blessing, Rebecca Phillips took his photographs and painted the signs he captured in her illustrated style. It's almost a throwback to the days when ads, postcards, and signage were hand-painted. When I started promoting her "Memphis Type Illustrated" series online, we were given the opportunity to create a book of history on these landmarks. It made sense to continue on with the Memphis Type theme and called the project “Memphis Type History.”
