Goodreads asked David G. Barnes:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

David G. Barnes I got the idea to write Blood, Sweat & Gears while working at American Axle & Manufacturing about 10 years ago. I was the company's corporate counsel and read an internal newsletter account of a guy (who was then an American Axle product engineer) named Herb Adams, who independently led a team that created a racecar from a 1964 Pontiac sedan and seriously competed with it against the pros in 1971. I thought it was a fantastic underdog story, so I called up Herb, introduced myself and asked if I could write his story. He immediately agreed. 12 years later, I finally finished!
